On June 9, 2026, Nintendo held its Nintendo Direct livestream, which is when the company makes its biggest announcements and gives fans a sneak peek at what to expect in the coming months or year. Instead of a traditional press conference or boring press release, the company leverages its social media channels to promote its own content.
In the past, I haven’t found most of these announcements or livestreams to be all that exciting, as most of their announcements tend to be leaked beforehand and I don’t have much reason to care about their new titles otherwise. But this year, it appears that Nintendo may have heard some of the hate and brought out all the stops, including many surprises.
Here’s what titles and updates we are most excited for from Nintendo Direct 6.9.2026.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort – October 22, 2026
If you grew up when the Nintendo Wii launched, you probably, like me, have a soft spot for the Wii Sports franchise. The games were never great, but for most of us, it was our first jump into what a Wii could do, and it quickly became a sleepover staple. Wii Sports Resort quickly built on this by expanding into more areas of play, even allowing players to explore the aesthetic Wuhu Island in entirely new ways via Island Flyover and Power Cruising.
Truthfully, I think the biggest detraction from my excitement is that the character designs are not Miis. Honestly, it might be enough to ruin the entire game, but time will tell. I also have a personal gripe that Nintendo didn’t continue to make this series of games free with the consoles, but I get it.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort will be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.
Stellar Blade – 2026
Steller Blade is neither a new title nor is it a Switch 2 exclusive; however, in our review, we gave this title an 8/10, mostly due to its engaging combat and overall aesthetic.
If the game can bring the same quality visuals to the Switch 2 that fans have fallen in love with on other consoles, it will surely secure a few hearts, though I’m skeptical at the time of writing this that a Switch 2 is powerful enough to match what fans have come to expect from this game based on its PlayStation appearance.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword – September 25, 2026
If you’ve already read our reviews of Onimusha: Warlords and Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, you’ll know that these games feature intense, non-stop action set in Japanese history. So far, Way of the Sword appears to keep with this mold.
It’s been quite some time since Onimusha fans have been blessed with a new title. If it promises the same great action plus modern graphics, it could breathe new life into an otherwise well-loved franchise. The fact that it will be able to run and look great on a Switch 2 is simply an added bonus to what will certainly be a title to look out for.
Star Fox – June 25, 2026
Rumors and excitement amongst Nintendo fans first began to circulate after the introduction of Fox McCloud in Illumination’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026), voiced by the charming Glen Powell.
Though I hate to admit it, Star Fox was never a title I gravitated towards as a kid, although I did like to attempt to play as Fox McCloud and Wolf O’Donnell in the Super Smash Bros. titles throughout the years.
Though Fox’s new look is a bit more intense than Illumination’s version, it’s sure to revive a classic franchise for a new generation of fans. It is also, shockingly, currently listed at $49.99 for a digital version, which is a positive sign after the backlash Nintendo received for pricing Mario Kart World at $79.99 for digital, which we also criticized.
Kingdom Hearts IV – 2026/2027
It’s been a while since Kingdom Hearts fans have had a true, honest story-driven release. While the trailer doesn’t reveal much, the Internet is loving it so far.
This game is still pretty early in development and, other than its surprise announcement, we don’t know much. However, what we do know, KH fans, is that this one is going to be released on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake – 2026
Finally, perhaps the most intriguing and exciting of the bunch was Nintendo’s announcement that the Nintendo 64 classic would not only be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, but that it would be (seemingly) getting a full facelift
The music, the story, the nostalgia. From what we can tell, all of it will seem to come together with this remake. This trailer is beautifully cinematic. Though the first shot of Link feels a bit off given the stylistic design difference and the trailer reveals nothing so far in the way of gameplay, I’m sure Nintendo will do its predecessors justice, since this Zelda title has alread received a few remasters. If not, fans will undoubtedly let them know.
Unfortunately, for Zelda fans like myself who cannot justify buying a console right now, this title is going to be another Switch 2 exclusive. If Nintendo decides to remake Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, I’ll have no choice but to upgrade to a Switch 2. However, until then, I’ll stick with my Nintendo Switch as long as I can.
